Indoor Driving Fun Event - Cone Capers

Venue: Anvil Park Stud, Larling, Norfolk, NR16 2QU

The Breckland Driving Club's first indoor driving competition was a great success and enjoyed by competitors of all ages and abilities. The competitions included the standard Fault Cones competition with optimum time, followed by a Combined marathon (cones and one marathon type obstacle). Our new and innovative competition Double-Jeopardy proved challenging with the drivers and backsteppers. Having completed the course in the right order, drivers turn around a compulsory flag and drive the course in reverse order. Needless to say the reverse round created just a little confusion between driver and backstepper, and frustration for some who just couldn't drive the obstacle in reverse order. As one driver remarked, "after all these years of driving with the red marker on the right, it was difficult to drive with the markers on the red on the left".

We were lucky to have ITV Anglia coming along to take some footage of carriage driving. The cameraman was pleased with the interviews and footage of our competitors in the Cones competitions. Not sure when the footage will be shown, but what a wonderful start for the club!

At Breckland's we like to do things a little different, and the mounted presentations at the end of each competition was well received by competitors, all made extra special doing a lap of honour to the music of the Horse of the Year Show.  This format certainly saves competitors having to hang around all day for the event to finish to receive their rosette. All the Backsteppers received a rosette on the day, and it was nice to award their efforts.
